Este virtuoso guitarrista es generalmente el principal en la banda de rock progresivo Yes, fundada en 1968. Iniciando su carrera solista a mediados de los 70, Steve Howe ha impreso en su música estilos muy variados. Con sus participaciones en grupos como Syndicast, Tomorrow o Bodast, y su clara influencia clásica en compositores como Antonio Vivaldi, ha logrado combinar perfectamente el rock sinfónico con estilos un poco más ligeros.
Su excepcional forma de manifestar sus sentimientos en la guitarra lo convierte en un héroe más de este difícil instrumento, y le imprime también un sello propio a grupos como Explorers Club, ABWH, Asia y GTR, siendo estos últimos más orientados al progresivo para la radio.
